Pat Bangklyn earned his name as a revered fashion designer in Bangkok, who would often combine New York style with salvage textiles. His clientele spanned from Asian breakdance crews to American celebs that sought out his designs for its retropolitan aesthetic. Pat moved to Brooklyn after years of being wooed by fellow fashion designers, though what he found in NYC was a new outlet for his passion of culture and trend: Food. Pat’s newest creative venture is Bangklyn East Harlem, an eatery that features South East Asian fare combined with nuances that are authentic to El Barrio. A Thai Style, Tamarind Coconut Market Soup, paired with a Topo Chico and finished with a fair- trade Colombian espresso is the type of menu diversity you can expect at this cozy spot. The open kitchen means you can watch the artist at work, as he is the one and only chef. Vintage clothing and bespoke denim pieces line the back wall of the eatery, while the speakers play a surprisingly balanced playlist of hip hop and traditional Thai music. Really quite the experience and must visit if you are looking for a hidden gem of New York City.
