Entering El Kallejon feels like transporting to a hidden gem in an alley way of Mexico City. This intimate eatery and Spirits bar features a brilliantly designed menu with modern twists on classic Latin dishes. Mexican, French, Japanese and Mediterranean flavors all make their way into the menu, which has been revered by food critics and epicures. The space is adorned with Alebrijes (al-e-bri-hez), brightly colored mythical animals made of paper mache, masks of Luchadores or wrestlers, and framed artwork depicting the Agave cactus, the plant from which the spirits behind the bar get their spirit. The bar features an excellent selection of Mexico and California wines, Tequila, Mescal and Sotol, a spirit distilled in Northern Mexico and rarely ever found in NYC. Order up a cold beer to chase down that full bodied mescal, pair it with a Ceviche and rest up on the hammock in the backyard. You will love this place!
